What is PRISMAP+?

PRISMAP+ brings together a consortium of 24 beneficiary or associate institutes that advance the European Medical Radionuclide Programme. Building on recommendations from the Council of Europe to consolidate the European Radioisotope Valley Initiative and related R&D activities for medical radionuclides, PRISMAP+ aims to coordinate the access for biomedical researchers across Europe to a consortium of leading facilities. By providing access to novel medical radionuclides and specialised facilities, PRISMAP+ supports the development of innovative radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and treatment, including applications in cancer research and personalised medicine.

Compared with the previous PRISMAP consortium, PRISMAP+ expands both the geographical coverage and the scope of the supply chain. The consortium brings together Europe's leading medical radionuclide production and research infrastructures, covering the full supply chain from isotope production to biomedical applications.

The portfolio of services offered through PRISMAP+ is designed to meet the evolving needs of European biomedical researchers. Access is provided through the medical-radionuclides.eu platform, which offers up-to-date information, manages project selection and access procedures, and publishes project outcomes and dissemination activities. In addition, researchers can access services and support through our biomedical hubs.

Access platform

Furthermore, PRISMAP+ promotes innovation through its Clinical Translation Office, which will support successful projects and guide them towards clinical translation.

Another key component of PRISMAP+ is the integration of emerging infrastructures as strategic pillars of the network. By promoting early engagement, technical alignment, and user-driven development, this initiative will strengthen the network's production capacity, expand its geographical coverage, and support its long-term sustainability.

PRISMAP+ aims to foster a dynamic and collaborative environment where new facilities can quickly contribute to, and benefit from, the consortium's expertise and infrastructure. Ultimately, this approach will accelerate progress in radionuclide production and its applications in biomedical research.

Workplan

The PRISMAP+ work plan consists of 12 work packages, including 2 transnational access activities, 3 networking activities, 5 research-enabling activities and a work package dedicated to the project’s management.

The transnational access activities comprise the management of the web-based entry platform, the coordination of the user selection and access procedures, and the production and dispatch of non-conventional radionuclides. They also provide access to translational research for medical applications.

The networking activities are focussed on harmonisation and standardisation of non-conventional radionuclides, fostering industrial and clinical collaboration. They also promote the dissemination and communication of PRISMAP+ results and the sustainability of the PRISMAP+ community, as well as the involvement of emerging infrastructures.

Research-enabling activities aim at increasing our portfolio through generators and mass separation techniques, generating accurate data for translational research and exploring the potential of noble metal radionuclides and Auger electron emitters.
